Welcome to our first track & field blog for this season.
Though our numbers are slightly down we still have over 105 athletes on the two
teams. The first week of practice went very well, helped of course by the
fantastic weather we had. Of course, living in NE the weather can change at the
drop of a hat and it certainly has.
Once again we shouldfield a very strong girls team led by last season’s league and undefeatedchampions in 7th grader Jessica Ewing (800) and 8th
graders Hannah Gillis (1600) & Anna Farrow (hurdles & 400). Also
returning are consistent top scorers capable of winning any of their events in 8th
grader Mikayla Hickey (100, 200, long jump & relay) and 7th
grader Madeleine Hunt (800 & 1600). Other scorers that are returning
include Hailey & Casey Johnson (100, 200, long jump, relay), Erica Chareth
(400, high jump), Juliane Donohue (400), Emily Ehrenstein (400, 800) &
Emily Lewis (100, 200, relay). Newcomers that look like they can step in and
contribute immediately are 6th grader Elise Lambert (400, 800, long
jump) , 7th grader Erica Cheries (100, 200) and coming out for the
team for the first time after two strong cross country seasons 8th
grader Kate Bermingham (400, 800, 1600, long jump, relay). The goal this season is to continue a three year undefeated streak and win our fourth league championship in a row.
The boys’ team is in somewhat of a rebuilding mode but the
focus and expectations are to peak at the right time and compete for the league
championship. Cameron Behn, last season’s
second top scorer, returns (hurdles, 200, high jump, relay) as do 8th
grade hopefuls Ely Marciano (200, 400, relay), Nick Tabor (100, shot put,
discus), Matt Blood (100, 200, long jump, relay) Josh Anson (800) & Joe
Lauer (100, 200, relay) and 7th grader Thomas Lipken. Top newcomers
include 8th graders Erich Rotthoff (shot put, 200) and Kenny Wood
(shot put), 7th graders Ali Ewiss (200, relay, long jump), Sergey
Clay (400, 800) and Keelan Mackenzie (400, 800).
