Busy Memorial Day Weekend In Amherst

If any of you think that there was more traffic in Amherst this weekend, you're not dreaming. Route 101 to Amherst AS definitely busier with local and out of state cars carrying young soccer players!

Hampshire FC/ASC hosted their annual Memorial Day Soccer Tournament. What a great event, over 270 teams are participating, cars in the Souhegan parking lot had cars from as far as New Jersey.  This equates to over 4,000 participants, 700 soccer games, 200 referrees, use of over 20 fields. A very dedicated committee and over 700 volunteer hours ensures that the touranment runs smoothly.

The fact that Mother Nature helped out with the sunshine makes it even better. If we think a bit further than our kids enjoying a great weekend of sport, these extra visitors are eating meals in local restaurants, buying ice-cream and candy in local stores and many of the teams that have travelled are staying in local hotels, a welcome boost to our local economy.
