Further Accomplishments by This Term's Legislature

What was achieved that effects you personally through the actions of your current legislature.

Just to begin with a "the hot issue of the week" lets talk gun control, or not, just briefly. NH has been voted the best place to live in the US. One important reason for that honor is our low crime rate. One reason for that is the manner in which we in NH address guns and gun control. It is a fact - please check the FBI records before you dissent - that those cities with the "strictest gun control laws" are generally the most violent and crime ridden. You need only listen to the Boston news daily to appreciate that fact. Certainly the fact that laws currently on the books and NOT enforced plays a role in these statistics however the facts remain. This legislative session action by the General Court strengthened our 2nd Amendment rights by decriminalizing "brandishing" which reduces the likelihood of further violence to innocent victims. Perhaps more importantly is the fact that this session passed no laws diluting your rights!

With the elections nearly upon us and thus an opportunity to choose representation it would be helpful to review a few of the most important actions taken this session which have a direct impact on the well being of the individual, family and our state. We blocked the conservation commissions from trespassing on your private property, blocked the taking of your personal property during a state of emergency, allowed you to hire outside contractors for power line work on your property, protected you from liability when you generously allow recreation on your property, exempted you from interference by the DES if replacing or modifying a sewerage system, required your town to notify you before they designate any portion of YOUR private property as "prime wetlands", allow you to sue for legal fees when the victim of a frivolous accessibility lawsuit, gave you the right to pull your child from classes teaching "objectionable" material, removed certain preferential treatment for jobs and promotions in our state agencies leveling the playing field for all state employees, protected the parental rights of our deployed military personnel, and protected your students right of association within our university system.

Just as important to us all is what this legislature did NOT do. We did not institute over 100 new taxes and fees, we did not leave you with a huge budget deficit, we did not attempt to allow either sex predators and perverts into any public bathroom they choose, we did not bond you children's and grandchildren's future, we did not allow the State to force you to put fire sprinklers in your home, and we did not allow your fuel bills to increase through RGGI.
