Local elections- March 12th-- Some thoughts:

Letter to the Community:

As we near the important voting day on March 12th, I would like to heartily recommend the re-election of five school board members. The candidacy of Lucienne Foulkes and Peggy Bennent for the Amherst School Board and Steve Coughlin, Howard Brown and Chris Janson for the Souhegan Board will provide important experience and vital continuity for the next term.

SAU 39 is providing a great education for our students but many important decisions lie immediately ahead as we adjust budgets, schedules, subject areas, curricula and adapt to Common Core Standards. As the school population ebbs and flows, requiring adjustments in both techniques and classroom sizes, those who are already well educated on the tradeoffs and priorities are best suited to continue our need to reduce budgets without compromising on the quality of the learning. We are well represented at this time, they are all part of the substantial budget cuts in this year’s warrant articles, and we need their expertise again.

Important factoid: Less than 25% of the parents of our children actually show up and vote. That is mind-boggling to me. If the parents of our students don’t care about the quality of education in this great community, why should anyone else? Parents—PLEASE VOTE and express your support for your student’s future.
