O'Briens Leadership Cleans Up Dems Financial Mess

NH General Court sets historical budget reduction and reduced spending keeping their promise to NH citizens to fix the mess left to them by their predecessors.

New Hampshire’s worst budget nightmare came when the Democrats in leadership in 2008-2010 accepted the president’s stimulus funds and glibly ignored the financial implications of using one-time funds to fill operating expenses.  Democrats increased state spending by an unimaginable 25% and instituted over 100 taxes and fees to pay for their gluttony, they avoided any debate on the issues or discussion of their record and resorted to personal attacks. When Republicans were directed by the voters to clean up the mess they inherited, a $900 million budget deficit, Speaker O’Brien resolved to bring NH back to common sense financial management. He made tough but necessary decisions to put the interests of the citizens of New Hampshire above party politics knowing full well that unfounded and spiteful rhetoric and personal attacks would be unjustly thrust upon him by the left.

Not defaulting to the usual solution of more taxes and fees, Republicans kept their promise to voters and closed that deficit without creating or increasing a single tax.  They reduced or eliminated 20 taxes and fees and passed over 80 laws reducing regulations on New Hampshire’s employers. Included in those tax and fee cuts were several reductions in business taxes.  As a result, unemployment dropped an entire point down to 5%--the sixth best in the nation. They also passed a historical budget 11% smaller than the prior budget, reduced spending by over $1.2 billion and general fund spending by $536 million or 18%.  This September and November, let’s vote to keep Speaker O’Brien
