Todays Question!

Financial Disaster from Past legislatures.

Interesting article in the Union Leader this morning by Charlie Arlinghaus. Read it then ask yourself this question. What happened to destroy NH's finances in just the past two legislatures? As noted in the article both parties for years showed discipline, common sense and courage in dealing with state finances. Not in the past two legislatures however. And members of those two legislatures want another do-over!

How is it that Obama, allegedly "stuck" with all our national financial problems brought on by Bush, be lauded for making such "great strides in "bringing us back"? To where is a question seeking a much needed answer. But I digress from the original point which is, your current legislature brought our state back from a financial disaster the evidence of which is absolutely indisputable and yet those very same people who laud Obama for his failed performance criticize those in this legislature for actually doing exactly as they promised. Double standard? Absolutely!

If there is, as many candidates seeking state legislative office profess, a need for less acrimony within the House then what say they start by giving credit where credit is due instead of denigrating the hugely successful efforts of the legislature to undo what the two preceding legislatures failed to do. The past two legislatures dumped a 800 to 900 million dollar shortfall on NH and they didn't have the leadership, fortitude or good sense to begin correcting their mistakes but chose the cowards route and shoved the mess on to the current legislature to correct. Along with leadership comes responsibility and strength in the face of a crisis. The members of the past two legislatures showed neither. It is very easy to give everyone everything they want. It is very challenging to make tough decisions in order to pay for their largess and protecting the hardworking residents of NH from being taxed to poverty or indebted for decades.
