Track & Field: Friday, May 25

Championship Prep

Madeleine Hunt destroyed the school record with a blistering time of 5:22 in winning the 1600 on Friday as the Amherst Middle School track & field team concluded the regular season as both boys & girls teams defeated Milford, Nashua Catholic and St. Josephs.  Jessica Ewing also improved her school record in the 800 with a time of 2:28 as Mikayla Hickey faced her stiffest competition of the season by narrowing winning the 100 and long jump and tying for first in the 200.

Juliane Donohue won the shot put while Anna Farrow placed first in the hurdles. Other top performers included Casey Johnson (100, 200, long jump, relay), Kate Bermingham (400, hurdles, long jump), Gwen Hale (high jump, 400, relay) and Erica Chareth (hurdles, high jump, relay).

The girls have a four year win streak on the line going into the championship next Wednesday at Nashua South. As teams around the league have showed improvement it’s not a done deal and the girls have to show up ready to compete and perform at their absolute best. Records aren’t important at this point as it’s all about team performance.

The boys team once again was led by Cameron Behn with firsts in the hurdlers and 200 and 3rd in the long jump while anchoring the winning 4 x 200 relay. Ely Marciano had his best meet of the season in winning the 400 with a seasons best time and placing 2nd in the long jump while running the 3rd leg on the 4 x 200. Keelan McKenzie won the 800 and placed 2nd in the 400 and Thomas Lipken captured first place in the 1600.

As the boys team heads into the championship it will certainly take an incredible effort to win after losing two of their top performers for the second year in a row. The jumpers have to perform at their peak performance and the throwers as well. Every position in the running events will be crucial as every point the team can muster is a must.
