What Would I Do If My Car Were Stolen?

Getting your car stolen is one of those things you are never really know if you are prepared for, until it happens to you. What would you do if your vehicle was stolen? I recently had a man come into my office asking that very question. The first thing you should do is make sure to talk with the police. It’s important to make them aware of the theft and file a formal police report. After that, you should get in touch with your insurance company and let them know what has happened.  In most cases, the process will be somewhat similar to what happens when you get into an accident.

You will need to file a claim and go through the claim process with your insurance company (this is when you will need to provide them with the police report).  The amount of comprehensive coverage you have on your car insurance will be important in this situation. If you are worried you may not have enough comprehensive coverage if your car were to be stolen, give your agent a call and get their opinion!
