“We have a rural, independent constituency that doesn’t like to spend money aimlessly, however we also have assets, such as roads and buildings, that need to be taken care of,” he said.
Galinson said that he has been consistent, fair and open to new ideas during his service to the town.
“I leave my ego behind, am reasonable and come without any foregone conclusions.” said Galinson. “I feel strongly about the things I feel, but am always respectful.”
One issue he feels strongly about and will continue to work on as a selectman is pay equality for government employees, as well as competitive compensation for emergency volunteers. Another goal for Galinson is to finish implementing an impact fee ordinance that would more accurately charge developers by measuring the impact of their projects on the town.
He also wants to ensure that the town’s roads and buildings are properly maintained to prevent future costs, as well implement an economic development so that the town maintains its character.
Galinson is proud of the efficiency that Amherst has shown in its government and the hard work and experience of the department heads and employees that it is built on.
“I like how things are in town and you wouldn’t just say that everywhere,” said Galinson. “We have a really good group of people here in town, so I want tweak it and make it better.”
It is the long history of a community caring and giving their time that inspires this candidate to stay involved. He said that this is why Amherst is a town that he is proud to live in and serve.
“These people have given time,” said Galinson. “If I am going to enjoy it, then I am going to participate in it.”
