The New England Bluegrass Band is known for playing high-caliber, traditional bluegrass music, emphasizing powerful vocals and skillful instrumental work. Led by Cecil Abels, the group has been a regional institution, performing classic bluegrass with hot picking and tight harmonies. They have featured many top musicians from the area and are celebrated for providing a solid, entertaining experience. While the New England region has fostered both traditionalists (like Joe Val and The New England Bluegrass Boys) and groups that blend genres, the New England Bluegrass Band sticks to a respected, traditional sound.
The Andres Institute of Art celebrates 28 years this year as the Largest Sculpture Park in New England. Situated on a former ski hill in Brookline, NH, the park offers 140 acres, 10 miles of trails and 107 sculptures made on site by sculptors representing over 50 countries over the past 25 annual sculpture symposia. The trails and the art are available to the public every day for free (donation requested). Three years ago, a concert series was started to raise funds for the trails, resurrecting a longstanding local music venue, the Big Bear Lodge in the former ski lodge.
