Amherst Friends of the Library Book Sale

The annual Friends of the Amherst Library Book Sale is a favorite among book lovers.  With approximately 12,000 books, mostly in good condition, and prices in the $.50 to $1.00 range for all but Vick Bennison's "special" books, the sale draws people from all over New Hampshire.  All of the books are sorted according to category making browsing especially productive.

The sale begins at 8:30 am with a special members only preview from 8:00 am to 8:30 am.  Memberships are available at the door.  In the afternoon, there is a $5.00 a bag sale when customers are provided with brown paper bags to fill with books for winter reading.  Many of the books are in excellent condition and suitable for gift giving.

All of the proceeds of the sale go to support library programs, free museum memberships, and special projects at the library.

Volunteers who work for two days prior to the sale as well as on Saturday make the sale possible.  Especially needed this year are people able and willing to carry books on Thursday afternoon.  Also needed are pick-up trucks on Saturday afternoon to return leftover books to the storage shed.  Thanks to the Souhegan High School football team, the heavy lifting on Saturday is taken care ofbut trucks are needed for transport.  Those wishing to volunteer can sign up at the library or call Nancy Head, 673-1389.
