Non-native invasive plants are growing rapidly and becoming an overwhelming problem that threatens our natural environment. Have you noticed the huge clumps of Japanese knotweed that are increasingly common along highways? Are you finding Oriental bittersweet growing up your trees, or black swallow-wort tangled up in you lilacs shrubs and perennials? Have you seen burning bush and Autumn olive escape into the woods and take over the forest floor eliminating all other plants?
You can help! Come learn what is being done in NH to combat the invasives problem. Doug Cygan, the NH Invasives Species Coordinator, will explain how nasty plants get on the NH Prohibited List, which ones are particularly pesky in our area and what to do about them. He will describe the most effective methods of control or eradication, including important measures that you can implement on your own property.
