“Annie” Kuster is the daughter of a prominent family in New Hampshire politics. Her father, Malcolm McLane, was
Mayor of Concord and served on the governor’s Executive Council. He ran for Governor of New Hampshire in 1972, as an Independent, losing to Mel Thompson. Her mother was elected as a Republican to the New Hampshire Senate, and ran for U. S. Congress in 1980.
Annie, a lawyer specializing in adoption and non-profit-sector law, entered the political arena in 2010, defeating Katrina Swett for the Democratic nomination for Congress, but narrowly lost in the general election to Charlie Bass (47% to 48%). She may be facing Congressman Bass again this coming November.
