Flexibility of Online School Supports Success of Amherst Gymnast

One local high school graduate's childhood passion blossomed into to a lifelong dream – and one that she is pursuing at college this fall. Thanks to the flexibility afforded by online school, Annie Christman of Amherst was able to fully devote her time to her local gymnastics program while growing up.
Annie is a June 2016 graduate of the K12 International Academy where she studied at home following the award-winning K12 curriculum. She had been homeschooled since elementary school, then switched to the K12 program in 10th grade because of the wide variety of available courses, frequent opportunities for socialization with other students, and the flexibility the program afforded her to train and compete.
“K12 was awesome. Wherever I had the internet and wherever I had my computer, I had school,” says Annie. “I was able to learn and do homework in airports and trains, sitting in the car, in Starbucks. I could hop on a plane to Chicago, complete an assignment in the hotel, then head to a meet. No way would this be possible with regular public school.”

Annie’s hard work at home and in the gym paid off. She was inducted into the National Honor Society, was a 4.5 GPA student, and achieved a level 10 status as a gymnast – the highest level in the Junior Olympics National Championships. And, she has been accepted into the gymnastics program at Brown University this fall.
