Get 'Tacky' At The Library

A local lover of cheesy photography will be at the Amherst Town Library tonight.

Are you one of those tourists who seek that priceless photo-op on vacations?

Well your tacky ambitions are appreciated by local Darren Garnick, one of the creators of Tackytouristphotos.com

The Emmy-nominated filmmaker, business journalist and and passionate traveller is hosting Amherst's Tacky Tourist Photo Night at the Amherst Town Library tonight at 7 p.m.

Participants can learn the Do's and Don'ts of silly travel photography and check out a gallery of tacky tourist photos from Garnick's collection.

As curator of TackyTouristPhotos.com, Garnick seeks contributions from your childhood vacation albums and your latest creative cell phone pics for possible inclusion in an offbeat coffee table book.

His favorite travel moments include helping rescue a lost tree sloth in Costa Rica, giving PEZ dispenser gifts to tribal leaders in the South Pacific, and sprinting up the 'Rocky Steps' in Philadelphia without collapsing.

Garnick is a contributor to Slate.com, Outside Magazine, Fast Company, The Atlantic and New Hampshire Magazine. He also has a blog called Darren Garnick's Culture Schlock.

This program is part of the library's series for adults entitled: The Human Spirit: Adventures and Challenges.
