Has NH Lost Faith in Congress?

A University of New Hampshire study released this week seems to indicate that's the case.

A new report by the University of New Hampshire Survey Center shows that just 7 percent of Granite Staters – both Democrats and Republicans – believe that Congress is more interested in serving its constituents than it is in serving special interest groups.

The survey, released Monday, shows that more than three-quarters of New Hampshire residents polled (78 percent) feel that Congress is more interested in serving special interest groups. Only 7 percent feel that Congress is more interested in serving its constituents, and another 15 percent said they are unsure.

Nearly two-thirds (64 percent) of New Hampshire adults said they believe political contributions have a lot of influence on what the federal government does, 26 percent think they have some influence, and 8 percent think they have little or no influence.

Not surprisingly then, four in five New Hampshire adults (81 percent) believe that political reforms are a necessary step to solving many of the nation’s pressing problems. Only 12 percent say reforms are not a necessary step.
