Kathie McIntyre Is Teacher Of The Year Nominee

The Clark-Wilkins School Library/Media Specialist will be honored at a ceremony on Thursday.

Forging a strong connection to learning in school can mean a lifetime of success for aspiring young students.

Kathie McIntyre does this each day at Clark/Wilkins Elementary School.

The library/media specialist has been named a nominee for 2013 NH Teacher of the Year, a national and statewide award builds community awareness of our state’s finest educators.

McIntyre has been at Clark/Wilkins for 35 years and has worked to make learning exciting for the students. She gets to see every single student each year and find that special something for them to connect to.

“My goal is for children to have an appreciation for learning and knowledge,” she said. “There is something in the library for everyone.”

She has organized numerous programs over the years to help every child grow and develop under her watch, including the invention program and writing festival held each year. McIntyre also organizes community service projects to benefit local nonprofits, such as SHARE.

The nominees will gather at the Teacher of the Year Nominee Ceremony in Concord on Thursday to present their work and the work of the students.

For McIntyre, it is about the satisfaction she sees in the faces of students as they discover and learn. She even has the joy of teaching children whose parents were Clark/Wilkins students back in the day.

“I see the excitement in the childrens’ faces; that has been my reward for many years,” she said.

The 2013 NH Teacher of the Year will be announced in September.
