Learn About How You Can Become an Advocate for Abused or Neglected Children

Visit the Nashua Library Dec. 2 or 3 to get more information and your questions answered about becoming a CASA volunteer guardian ad litem.

It may be something that’s been on your to-do list for a few years. Perhaps you’ve read a story and thought, I could do that. Or, this could be the first you’ve ever heard of it.

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of New Hampshire is looking for volunteers who are interested in having a positive influence on an abused or neglected child’s life. CASA is a statewide nonprofit organization that recruits, trains and supports volunteers from every corner of New Hampshire to be an advocate for abused or neglected children who’ve come to the attention of New Hampshire’s family courts through no fault of their own.

As CASA winds down its 26th year of providing vital advocacy for New Hampshire’s children, more than a dozen training sessions have already been scheduled for 2016. The first training of the new year is scheduled to begin in Nashua on Jan. 11. This 40-hour pre-service training readies volunteers to provide the best voice they can for the state’s abused and neglected children.

With more than 400 active CASA guardians ad litem advocating for approximately 85 percent of the state’s victimized children, there is a significant need for more volunteers who can help CASA provide advocacy for every child in need.

On Wednesday, Dec. 2 from 5-8 p.m. and Thursday, Dec. 3, from noon-5 p.m., CASA staff and volunteers will be available in the Hunt Room at the Nashua Public Library to connect with interested volunteers to answer questions and provide more information about this important volunteer role.
