Maryland Governor: General Motors Is Hiring, 'Osama Bin Laden Is Not'

Gov. Martin O'Malley told NH Democrats the country is slowly improving under President Obama.

MANCHESTER, NH – Democrats rallied behind President Obama at the New Hampshire Democratic Party convention today, while accusing Republicans of promoting a “radical Tea Party agenda” that is holding back economic recovery.

Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley, the chairman of the Democratic Governors Association, told a fired up crowd that the president’s policies are bringing the country back.

“Because of President Obama, General Motors is alive and hiring, and Osama bin Laden is not,” said O’Malley, referencing the death of the terrorist leader last year.

He had plenty of choice words for Republicans, especially for what he calls a “radicalized Tea Party” group that have hijacked the government and held up Obama’s efforts.

“We have a constipation Congress,” said O’Malley on the legislative blockage by Republican lawmakers. “If they thought it could help the recovery speed up, these people couldn’t even pass gas.”

He even zeroed in on former President George W. Bush by claiming that he passed on the recession, deficits and job losses. It may not be as rapid of a growth as many would hope, but he said that Obama has been moving forward from the Bush years.

“More jobs were created last year than the entire eight year presidency of George Bush,” he claimed.

Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney was also grilled by many of the speakers today, and O’Malley held no punches. He managed to throw in a jab at Romney while describing the beautiful sights and scenery in New Hampshire.

“One can picture Mitt Romney driving his family up here to one of his many homes, children in the back of the station wagon, dog tied firmly to the roof,” joked O’Malley. “As Seamus the dog can attest, Mitt happens.”

He added that there are “ship builders and ship wreckers,” with the former Massachusetts governor in the latter with his actions closing businesses with Bain Capital.

O’Malley applauded Gov. John Lynch’s efforts in New Hampshire, saying that he is one of the only things protecting the common good from New Hampshire House Speaker Bill O’Brien and his “backwards” agenda.

He finished by telling the Democrats that the best days are still ahead as long as they fight against the “radical” Republican vision of America.

“Let's not be the first generation in America to give our children a lesser quality of life,” he said.
