Meet The Math Guru Tonight

Professor Mahesh Sharma is a part of the effort to improving mathematics education in our schools.

How do children learn mathematics?

Professor Mahesh Sharma knows the answer and has been sharing his knowledge with teachers in our school district.

SAU 39’s "Mathematician in Residence" will be available to answer questions about his work on math in Mont Vernon and Clark/Wilkins elementary schools. This "Evening with Professor Mahesh Sharma" will take place tonight at Wilkins Elementary School's Multi-Purpose Room from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.

All parents and caretakers of children Pre K – 12 are invited to attend. Sharma will be answering questions and explaining key elements of mathematics instruction and what families can do to support learning in math.

Sharma is the founder and president of the Center for Teaching/Learning of Mathematics, Inc., of Wellesley and Framingham, Mass., and Berkshire Mathematics in England. He is also the former president and professor of Mathematics Education at Cambridge College, where he taught mathematics and mathematics education for 35 years.

His teachings are based around three ideas: There are no non-negotiable skills at each grade level, there is not a common definition of knowing and there are not consistent models for teaching math.
