Nia NH Has Found A New Home

The fitness studio has settled above The Stony Pony Store on Route 101A.

A local fitness studio that focuses on exercising both body and soul has moved into a new location in town.

Nia NH and Yoga has moved down the street on Route 101A to its new location above The Stone Pony store.

Owner Lisa Jones said the move last month was a must to accommodate her growing business. She offers six Nia classes a week and is now adding classes at noon in order to attract employees from nearby businesses on their lunch breaks.

“That one was my starter studio,” she said on her old location.  “To host what I now have going on, I needed more space.”

The Nia technique combines the martial arts, dance arts and healing arts for a complete level of fitness.

“People sometimes separate their exercise routines from themselves,” said Jones, “but Nia is a mind/body practice where people enliven all parts of themselves.”

Jones is offering classes to a growing number of students, such as Tai Chi and therapeutic breathing. She will also be offering training to teach others to become teachers of Nia.

She has run her Nia studio for the past three years, which is the first and only one of its kind in the state. Prior to owning a studio, Jones had been teaching the art around the area since 2004.

Her excitement for the art is something that Jones is ready to share with anybody interested in a different kind of fitness that can uplift the spirit.

“They leave with awareness and move through their life with what they learned,” she said. “It is much more than just exercise.”
