Obama To Reveal Jobs Plan Tonight

The president will address the nation at 7 p.m. on his plan to improve employment.

President Obama addresses the Joint Session of Congress tonight -- and the nation -- at 7 p.m., with a focus on job creation.

The address will be televised on major television stations, including CBS, ABC, and NBC, among others.

In a video released today by the White Houseand included at the right for you to see under "VIDEOS," Senior Advisor David Plouffe previewed the speech, saying that the President's initiatives will "help small businesses hire, grow and invest" in workers.

In a press briefing Thursday, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said the President was confident that his proposal would be carefully scrutinized by "independent, outside economic analysts" as to how much affect on job growth and economic growth it would have, once in place.

"[President Obama] will make the case very aggressively that measures he puts forward tomorrow night are the kinds of things that will help spur economic growth, that will lead to greater and faster job creation in the United States. And those are the two things that Americans across the board are demanding. And they believe that Washington, of late, has, rather than being helpful in achieving those goals, has been detrimental, especially this past summer during the debt ceiling fiasco. So he will be very aggressive in making that case," Carney said.

When asked about buzz surrounding the fact that many prominent Republicans were "skipping" the 7 p.m. speech, and foregoing the usual GOP response, Carney said this:

"We are focused on the main event here, not on the sideshows. There is an inordinate amount of attention here in Washington paid to the stuff that doesn’t matter, the stuff that Americans don’t care about, the stuff when they’re forced to listen to it and hear about it drives them crazy, understandably. And this is one of them," said Carney.

"It is -- look, there will be ample opportunity for members of Congress to express their views on the President’s proposals, to put forward their own proposals if they have constructive ones that might garner bipartisan support and be signed into law, that will have an immediate, significant impact on the economy and job creation. The President is focused, we are focused, on the speech he will give tomorrow on his proposals and on the urgent need for Congress to get its act together and do something."

Meanwhile, as many Democrats have expressed how vital it is that the President be bold and and offer a concrete jobs plans, Speaker of the House John Boehner announced today on his blog that he will host more than a dozen "job creators" from the business sector who have run up against government barriers in their quest to create new American jobs, to view the speech with him.
