Police: Welfare Administrator Stole Funds

Cynthia Satas of Troy, who is also the admin to the Board of Selectmen, has been arrested by NH State Police for stealing about $15K.

State police have arrested a woman they allege stole and misused town of Troy funds to pay for utility bills on properties that she owns in that town as well as Peterborough.

Cynthia P. Satas, 62, of Troy, was arrested on Dec. 8, and charged with felony theft by unauthorized taking or transfer.

According to state police, the police department in Troy contacted them to investigate a possible town employee who might have been misappropriating town funds. The information was received from a source outside of the town, according to police. The target of the investigation was Satas, the town’s welfare administrator and administrative assistant to the Board of Selectmen in Troy.

Investigator Trooper Sean Eaton stated that it was alleged that Satas was using the funds to pay utility bills for her home as well as “several rental properties” in the two communities.

It’s unknown how much money she allegedly stole, but Eaton stated, “It is believed that this activity has been ongoing for the past several years and has resulted in a loss of at least $15,000 in funds for the town of Troy.”

Police received the information on Oct. 24, and launched an investigation into the claims. They served a search warrant on Dec. 2, on her home and her office at the Troy Town Hall.
