POLL: Should Town Return to Milford Area Communications Center?
The idea was raised to try to save money in the town budget.
Amherst is exploring ways to save money to balance the Fiscal Year 2013 default budget.
One "savings opportunity," as put forth this week by the Amherst Citizens Association, could be returning to the Milford Area Communications Center (MACC). Police Chief Peter Lyon that the move would not achieve the desired savings.
The Amherst Public Safety Communications Center has provided dispatching services for the town's police, fire, EMS and Department of Public Works since Jan. 1, 2005. The center is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, year-round. Dispatchers field about 50,000 calls annually, according to the town's website.
