“I’m very excited. A little anxious, but hopeful,” said Cocca-Leffler.

“Princess K.I.M. The Musical” is about a girl named Kim who moves to a new town with her dad and theatrical Grandma. She lies and tells her new friends that she is a princess, but her little lie grows out of control, causing her life to get very complicated.

She joins five other finalists chosen out of the 178 plays submitted to the festival. Her musical will be performed on Sunday, April 29, at 2 p.m.

Cocca-Leffler will be at the festival for the performance and asks everyone to send her “good vibes” as she awaits to hear if Princess K.I.M. comes out on top that day. The winner is chosen by the audience, board members and teachers.

She said that just being chosen to be in the festival validates the hard work her and the team have been putting into the musical, which has been worked on for the past year to ready for production.

The show is already planned to premiere at the Amato Theater in Milford next year and other venues are also in the works.

Cocca-Leffler said that Princess K.I.M. has already seen an outpouring of support from the community, as seen in their successful Kickstarter project to raise $10,000 for the production.
