Repelling Pests, Attracting Customers

A new pest control business in Amherst is looking to build through technology and social media.

Starting a new business in a recovering economy can be a challenge and present plenty of problems to bug even the most optimistic entrepreneur.

Luckily, Bryan Archambault has experience dealing with bugs.

The Amherst native has just started up his own pest control business called Four Seasons Pest Control which provides pest control services for New Hampshire and Massachusetts. Joined by his friend George Goodwin, his company has just recently become fully-licensed, insured and ready to go.

Yet, he is setting his sights beyond areas of infestation and into the digital realm of Facebook, Twitter and Youtube.

Archambault said his big focus will be developing his website and using these social media tools to better connect with and educate his customers.

“It is about getting out there and interacting with people, he said.

For example, he plans on having his customers use his Facebook page to upload pictures of their pest problems so that he can give them a recommendation right away. His Twitter feed will also be used to stay in touch with customers and answer their questions.

His business will focus on spreading by word of mouth, which has already been given a boost through his social media efforts. He was surprised to have a good amount of “likes” and “followers” so early on.

“I don’t know if I could have reached that many people so fast using traditional methods,” said Archambault. “It is definitely a good resource to build my presence on the web.”

There are also plans to post videos on YouTube to educate visitors on the best methods of protecting their homes from pests. The online video website has proven to be a great resource for him to learn anything from tying a tie to stringing a lacrosse head.

“I am a big fan of learning stuff on YouTube when I need to learn something,” he said. “We want to not only solving the problem, but show them how to prevent it in the future.”

He is hoping that his experience working for another local pest control company in the area and competitive pricing, along with customer service, will bring in business. He is currently focusing on local customers, but has no problems travelling to jobs farther away.

Archambault said his wife has fully supported him throughout this process and has even given her input on the company name, logo and more. He is also grateful to the people around him who are helping to build his website and online presence, since most of it is new territory for him.

“Technology is not my strength, but I am learning and having a great time doing it,” he said.

It does seem like he is having a good time, asking his Facebook visitors what the mommy ant gave her sick son. (The answer? ANTibiotics.)
