State DMV Warning of Online Licensing Scams
To avoid being duped, officials recommend using direct link rather than search engines to get to the DMV website.

The New Hampshire Division of Motor Vehicles is warning drivers of a scam involving online license renewals. The scam uses fake websites that appear to be that of the DMV to collect personal and credit card information.
“We have had a number of reports of drivers in New Hampshire and other states being duped into providing sensitive information to scam websites,” said Richard C. Bailey, Jr., director of Motor Vehicles. “We certainly encourage people to make use of online driver license renewal, but they need to make sure that they are dealing with the real DMV website."
Bailey said people should enter the web address exactly, rather than searching for it with a search engine. The state DMV web address is www.nh.gov/safety/dmv/.

“The authentic web address and a Renewal Identification Number needed for online renewal are contained in the letter that drivers receive about six weeks before the expiration of their license,” Bailey said.
The online licensing program is available to most drivers with a few restrictions. If you have moved since your last license was issued, you must go to a DMV office to renew. And the online licensing system is for renewal only – your first license must also be obtained in person. The letter sent reminding you to renew your license includes any further details about online licensing options.
