Titanic Bandleader's Note Up For Auction
Wallace Hartley's band chose to play even as the ship sank.

RR Auction is commemorating the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic by offering more than 180 pieces of memorabilia from the tragedy, according to the Associated Press.
This auction includes a letter from Wallace Hartley, the ship's bandleader who chose to play on as it fell into the sea. He wrote home to his parents in England that the Titanic was a great ship and that his fellow musicians were very nice.
The letter was mailed during one of two stops the Titanic made before it struck an iceberg 350 miles south of Newfoundland and sank April 15, 1912, leaving 1,517 dead.
