VIDEO: Kuster Swearing-In Ceremony

Surrounded family, supporters, and friends, Kuster does it local.

U.S. Rep. Annie Kuster, D-NH, was sworn in again in a local ceremony on Jan. 10, at the Warren B. Rudman U.S. Courthouse.

Former Chief Justice Supreme Court Justice John Broderick was the emcee of the event. He said he wasn’t able to vote for Kuster, because he lives in District 1, but he would have if given the chance.

“At a time in Washington when everything seems dysfunctional, without promise or solutions, she’s a great addition,” he said.

Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, D-NH, also spoke and called it “very special” that she will be able to serve together with Kuster since her parents, Malcolm and Susan McLane, were some of the first people she met in politics. Susan McLane always encouraged new, young women to get involved, Shaheen said, even though they were members of different parties.

Surrounded by friends, family, politicos, and other dignitaries, who cheered her loudly after being sworn in, Kuster thanked everyone and said she was “overcome” by everyone being there, “friends since Dewey School.” She said it was a tremendous distinction to have Justice David Souter, Shaheen, and others in the crowd.
