WMUR Veteran Running For Selectman

Charles Sherman will be running against two incumbent candidates in Amherst.

A locally-known celebrity is making the selectman race in Amherst a bit more interesting.

Charles S. Sherman, former sports director and television personality on WMUR, has filed his candidacy for a seat on the Board of Selectmen.

He will be running against incumbents Bruce Bowler and Brad Galinson for the two three-year seats on the board.

The ex-television personality was one of the candidates interviewed to fill in the vacant selectman seat after former Chair Jim O'Mara was selected as the last year, according to the board's minutes.

The board ended up choosing Galinson, who had already served on the board for three years prior.

Sherman is currently the executive director at New Horizons, an adult homeless shelter, soup kitchen and food pantry.

This now makes two in Amherst, but candidates still have time to file before the deadline.

The deadline for any other interested candidates to file with the Town Clerk is today at 5 p.m.
