2 From Massachusetts Injured In Bedford Tollbooth Rollover

An elderly driver from Groton and her passenger were sent to Elliot Hospital after she failed to negotiate a toll lane on Sunday, NHSP say.

BEDFORD, NH — A woman and man from Groton, Massachusetts, were injured after a rollover crash at the Bedford tollbooth on the Everett Turnpike on Sunday.

Around 3 p.m., New Hampshire State Police began receiving calls about a crash at the tolls. Elizabeth Johnson, 84, who was driving a 2023 Subaru Forrester, “failed to negotiate the EZ Pass toll lane, struck the concrete barrier, and subsequently rolled over,” Amber Lagace, the public information officer for state police, said.

Johnson and her passenger, Frederick Merk, 87, were taken to Elliot Hospital in Manchester with minor injuries.

Lagace said Lane 3 of the southbound toll plaza was shut down for about an hour while crews cleared the scene and state police investigated the crash. Bedford firefighters and EMTs, and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation assisted troopers.
