4. Graduates in the news. Some 2,552 students were awarded a variety of bachelor's degrees during the University of Vermont's 209th Commencement ceremonies on May 20. There were some 536 advanced degrees and certificates awarded by the UVM Graduate College and approximately 114 women and men took the oath of Hippocrates following the awarding of their M.D. degrees at ceremonies of the UVM College of Medicine. A list of local students and the degree earned by each follows:
- Shane R. Bartley of Bedford received a Bachelor of Arts in Biology.
- Timothy P. Daley of Bedford received a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology.
- Karah A. Heald of Bedford received a Master of Science in Communication Science.
- Elizabeth A. Lagasse of Bedford received a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry.
- Owen P. Lapierre of Bedford, NH, received a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering.
5. Bulldog Bites. The Bedford High School girls tennis team travels for the Division II semifinals today at 4 p.m. at Saint Thomas Aquinas High School in Durham. The Lady B's are defending their 2011 state title.
