Aitken: 1,067 Petitioners Seek Veto of HB 577
NH residents are not happy with the state's attempts to mandate zoning laws
The attempt to mandate all zoning from the state continues. This is in direct conflict with the people in the towns who want to retain local control. People do not want to wake up and find their formerly quiet single-family neighborhood turned into a rental zone.
The Housing issue is non-partisan. People from both parties are interested in stopping the state’s attempt to interfere in the local control of zoning.
This petition to the Governor has garnered 1,067 signatures and is being sent to her every day as a reminder of the above.

CONTINUE TO CONTACT THE GOVERNOR AND ASK HER TO VETO HB577.
Remind her of how many have signed.
Accessory Dwelling Units (HB 577): This bill is on the way to the governor’s desk and would increase the size of ADUs and allow them to be detached from the residential dwelling on the property. Basically this would eradicate any single-family zoning that currently exists.

Meanwhile, advocates for the building trades who are pushing these bills, are speaking to the public.
On JUNE 19 in WINDHAM - AFP-NH has teamed up with the NH Home Builders Association and are pushing to meddle with local zoning. The event, which includes a free dinner, is being held from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at 22 Haverhill Rd. #111. RSVP to afpnh.net/windhamhousing
Speakers who are spreading the message of why these bills would 'Mass Up NH':
JUNE 18 in WINDHAM - Rep Len Turcotte, who despite his busy schedule has been speaking around the state and fighting for local control. He will be speaking in Windham on June 18th. If you want to hear why these bills are a danger to single family neighborhoods, please plan to attend. We request that you first email Cynthia Finn at cynthiafinnwindhamnh@gmail.com to ask for permission if you are not a Windham Republican.
And if you still don't understand how your vote will be taken from you, this forum is about how town meeting works.
JUNE 26 in BEDFORD - The people running this forum said “This meeting is simply about understanding town government and how to get involved. We are not taking a position on local control of zoning or not.” It still may be interesting to attend as they will likely discuss how housing is approved and the workings of town meetings as well as the proposed impact of detached ADUs.
