Aitken: Nikki Haley's Worst Moments

Lying and flip-flopping is not a good look

You have to wonder if any of Haley’s supporters, including the governor of NH himself, have picked up on the numerous lies and gaffes Haley has made in the last few weeks?

In the last formal debate she was like a deer in the headlights when some of these lies were exposed. She had the nerve to accuse Gov. DeSantis of not standing up for the rights of women, when it was HE who actually signed a bill to protect women, while SHE is the one who did not.

And it’s not gotten better since then...

Haley told a reporter that she will “change personalities” after the Iowa caucus: “The structure of [the primary] is really amazing. Iowa starts it. YOU CHANGE PERSONALITIES, you go into New Hampshire.” She was then booed by Iowa caucus goers for saying New Hampshire will “correct” their votes.

Haley said she was open to pardoning Hunter Biden: “Let’s wait and see.”

Haley tried to go back on her Civil War flub by saying “I had black friends growing up.” Sure, we all have black friends, but when asked what the Civil War was about, we knew it was about slavery. Having black friends is not an excuse for flubbing that answer.

Haley told the New Hampshire Union Leader newspaper that ruling out serving as Trump's VP publicly "would make that 'the news for days' and stop her momentum". But she hasn’t specifically ruled it out.

Haley lied on national TV when she said she "NEVER said [Hillary Clinton] was an inspiration”. In her 2019 book she wrote that Clinton "had inspired me to run for office and make my voice heard. And in some ways, she remained inspiring."

Haley blamed Republican lawmakers in her home state for being unable to cut or eliminate the state income tax: "I would have loved to eliminate the income tax; it was the Republicans that didn’t want to do it". She is also heard on video saying “Let’s increase the gas tax” after pledging to NOT ever support raising it.

Haley says China is now our worst enemy but as Governor she practically gave South Carolina away to Chinese companies, even telling them on video while standing in front of their flag, “Now I work for you”. She claimed that Governor DeSantis tried to court China, when in truth, the Governor of Florida signed a bill preventing the purchase of land in that state by Chinese nationals.

Haley once slammed Trump’s plans to build a border wall (a promise not kept) and said we should take in refugees. “I've always said we shouldn't take any Gazan refugees in the U.S.,” the former South Carolina governor and 2024 GOP presidential hopeful said. But later claimed she never said that. She is of the corporate thinking that we need workers and supports looser immigration policies. She said “We need to go to our industries and say, ‘What do you need that you don’t have?’”

Haley’s claim that crime is at “all-time highs” is not true. Statistics show that crime has declined steeply over the past three decades.

After the January 6th attack, she condemned Trump and told Politico she didn’t think he could run for federal office again because he had fallen so far.

But by September of 2021, she seems to have gone in the opposite direction, stating to the Wall Street Journal that “We need him in the Republican Party. I don’t want us to go back to the days before Trump.”

She even said publicly she would never run against Trump if he ran again, but instead, here we are.

There are more things that she has lied about and flip-flopped on, but it is hoped that by now, you get the picture.

Isn’t it enough we had a Republican president who told more than 30,000 lies in four years and who continues to lie about his broken promises and everything else? Do we need another liar as our nominee?

We are looking forward to the debate on January 10th.

The primary is January 23. NH should choose wisely.
