Aitken: Tell Ayotte to VETO HB577

NH is slowly losing the ability to zone for single family housing

This was an ad posted by a corporation looking to buy in single family zoned neighborhoods to create rental properties. HB1291 was last year's bill, similar to HB577 to allow rentals in single family zones.

Today, ONLY ONE NH Senator from Hillsborough 9 voted to protect single family zoning in NH. Keep in mind that a home in a single family zoned area is something 60%-70% of all home buyers choose when they want to find a permanent place to live and raise a family.

This bill is an attack on the middle class, on families, and on the "NH Advantage" itself.

In our opinion, the passage of HB577 by both the House and Senate, if signed by the Governor, means that no longer might your quiet neighborhood be limited to single family homes. The bill will mandate that these areas ALLOW RENTAL properties in the form of various outbuildings that could be added to the premises.

Governor Ayotte promised she would not "Mass Up NH" but by signing this bill that is exactly what her legacy will be.

Write to the Governor and tell her to VETO HB577. Tell her we don’t want NH to turn into California where outlawing single family zoning has had detrimental effects.
