The first officer advised that the suspect allegedly stole two xBox controllers before he fled the store toward the Hannaford Plaza. An officer in the area reported seeing a man matching the description of the suspect walking on South Main Street near Oneida Street in Manchester.

“After speaking with the man, later identified as Atkins, police located the controllers on his person,” according to a report. “Upon further investigation, including comparing still images from Walmart of the suspect, police determined Atkins was the same person involved in the shoplifting incident.”

Bedford Police, according to the report, arrested Atkins on April 11, 2016, for theft by deception after an alleged incident at the Kohl’s location on South River Road.

Atkins was held at the Hillsborough County House of Corrections.

In a statement, Chief John Bryfonski of the Bedford Police Department, said, “Shoplifting is a prevalent problem in Bedford these days. We encourage all businesses to continue to have an active presence in their stores and to always report any incidents of this nature."
