BEDFORD, NH – Those who attend Girl Scout summer camp at Camp Kettleford will enjoy facilities with fresh paint, new benches, and clean and welcoming spaces this summer, thanks to the volunteers from GE Aerospace, who donated their time and labor.

Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains, the council serving Girl Scouts throughout New Hampshire and Vermont, was excited to welcome staff from GE Aerospace on Friday, May 15, as part of the Granite United Way’s annual “Day of Caring.” GE Aerospace, located in Hooksett, has over 730 employees and participates each year in support of different nonprofits.

James Florio, plant leader, said “Every year we choose a local nonprofit to support through the ‘Day of Caring’ and encourage our employees to give back to their local community.”

Ashley Sachs, who coordinated her GE Aerospace team for the volunteer day said, “Through United Way Day of Caring, we wanted to support an organization that makes a meaningful impact in our local community. Camp Kettleford plays an important role in giving girls opportunities to build leadership skills, gain confidence, and create lifelong memories. Helping prepare the camp for the summer was a hands-on way for our team to give back and support the next generation.”

In addition to the United Way day of volunteerism, GE Aerospace also gives paid time off to employees for other volunteer days.

Thanks to this group of over 25 volunteers, in addition to a few Bedford firefighters, there were many projects completed at Camp Kettleford in Bedford. Groups spread out and scraped and painted the outdoor porch of the main building as well as the attached enclosed porch. One of the bathrooms was completely repainted as well as the interior of the main building. Cabins were swept and cleaned in preparation for our Girl Scouts, as well as the archery area and gaga pit getting a refresh. The two largest projects that day were a new pavilion and new benches. The pavilion will provide shade and protection from the elements during the upcoming camp season. Forty-six new benches will be used at the council’s various camp properties.

“We are so grateful to GE Aerospace and all of their efforts,” said Kelli Brown, the council’s director of fund development. “We’ve never completed this many projects in one day before.”

Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains invites all families to consider summer camp, where girls from kindergarten through 12th grade, whether they are already Girl Scout members or not, can try new things, make new friends, discover wildlife, and enjoy the outdoors as a day camper, an overnight camper, or with their troop or family. Registration is open now for camp at six locations – day camp in Bedford, Portsmouth and Hebron, NH; day camp in Richmond and Salisbury, VT; and overnight camp in Thetford, VT.
