Bedford Sen. Ricciardi Named New England Water Works Association Legislator of the Year

MANCHESTER, NH — Bedford state Sen. Denise Ricciardi has been named Legislator of the Year by the New England Water Works Association.

The group recognized Ricciardi for championing public policy focused on safe drinking water for communities across New Hampshire.

Ricciardi, a Republican from Bedford, released a statement after receiving the honor.

"Every Granite Stater deserves access to safe, clean drinking water and appropriate waste and storm water treatment to protect the health of our families and communities," she said. "SB-443 was a bipartisan effort that not only protects our water supply and environment but also enhances affordable housing. I want to thank the bipartisan cosponsors of SB 443, which has also strengthened standards and oversight for wastewater treatment systems."

She added, "I'm deeply honored to receive this recognition from the NEWWA and grateful for their continued commitment to protecting clean water for New Hampshire families."

The award recognizes members of the U.S. Congress or a state legislative body who have substantially helped promote legislation or advance policy that protects public health and the environment while ensuring safe drinking water.

During the 2025-2026 Biennium, Ricciardi sponsored SB 443, described as a bipartisan bill relative to wastewater engineering. According to the announcement, Gov. Kelly Ayotte signed the measure into law on May 08.

The release ties the award to Ricciardi's work on that legislation, which she said addressed water supply protection, environmental concerns, and wastewater treatment system oversight. The statement also said the bill enhances affordable housing.

Ricciardi accepted the award and delivered remarks at the New England Water Works Association Conference at the DoubleTree by Hilton Manchester Downtown in Manchester.

The statement did not outline any next legislative steps related to SB 443 or additional water policy proposals. It did identify the law and the award criteria the association cited in recognizing Ricciardi's work.
