Bedford Man Takes Prominent Post with American Cancer Society

Peter Labombarde named Director of Estate and Gift Planning in New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine.

Peter Labombarde, a resident of Bedford, has been named Director of Estate and Gift Planning for the American Cancer Society.

As Director in the Society's Planned Giving Business unit, Labombarde helps clients understand how they can contribute in especially significant ways to the fight against cancer through a variety of planned giving vehicles. He demonstrates how bequests, charitable gift annuities, charitable trusts and other planned giving methods can provide substantial income tax and estate tax benefits. He works closely with clients' attorneys, accountants and other estate-planning professionals.

From the Society’s office in Bedford, Labombarde covers New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine. Before joining the Planned Giving Business Unit, he was Senior Wealth Management Officer for People's United Bank in Manchester. He has more than 25 years’ experience as a trust officer, working with individuals and families to meet their investment, estate planning, and charitable giving goals, and partnering with their legal and tax advisors to provide integrated solutions to their planning needs.

Labombarde received his BA from Colby College in Waterville, ME, and Masters degrees from  Cornell University and Florida State University.  He graduated with honors from the American Bankers' Association's National Graduate Trust School at Northwestern University, earning the Certified Financial Services (CFSC) designation. He is a member of the New Hampshire Estate Planning Council, the Planned Giving Group of New England, and the Queen City Rotary Club.

Labombarde worked for many years as a volunteer for the American Cancer Society, serving as treasurer and chair of the former New Hampshire Division, and as treasurer of the New England Division of the Society. He received the Society’s Singer Family Financial Stewardship Award in 2002, and in 2009 he was the recipient of the American Cancer Society St. George National Award – one of the highest recognitions of distinguished volunteer service presented by the organization.

"We are thrilled to have Peter on our team," said Tara Lembright Woodard, vice president of the Society's Planned Giving Business Unit in the New England Division. "He brings tremendous concern for serving his clients' best interests and a strong commitment to helping them see the connection between their planned gifts and the Society's ability to fight cancer effectively. He will help many individuals and families make wise estate-planning decisions."

The American Cancer Society combines an unyielding passion with nearly a century of experience to save lives and end suffering from cancer. As a global grassroots force of more than three million volunteers, we fight for every birthday threatened by every cancer in every community. We save lives by helping people stay well by preventing cancer or detecting it early; by helping people get well by being there for them during and after a cancer diagnosis; by finding cures through investment in groundbreaking discovery; and by fighting back by rallying lawmakers to pass laws to defeat cancer and by rallying communities worldwide to join the fight. As the nation’s largest non-governmental investor in cancer research, contributing more than $3.8 billion, we turn what we know about cancer into what we do. As a result, nearly 14 million people in America who have had cancer and countless more who have avoided it will be celebrating birthdays this year.
