Bedford's Chris Carpenter Leads Cardinals to World Series Title

St. Louis ace, pitching on three-days rest, earns game seven victory.

Chris Carpenter spends his offseasons living with his family in Bedford, and for the second time in the last five years, he'll bring some additional hardware to town when he arrives home.

Carpenter, who was born in Exeter, raised in Raymond, attended Manchester's Trinity High School and currently resides in Bedford, started the deciding game seven of the World Series last night on three-days rest.

He pitched six innings, allowing six hits and two earned runs while striking out five batters to earn the 6-2 victory for the St. Louis Cardinals.

The 36-year old finished 2-0 in three World Series starts with a 2.84 earned-run average and posted a 4-0 record in the 2011 postseason.

For Carpenter, who also helped the Cardinals capture the 2006 World Series title, the win represented his second series-clinching victory of the playoffs.
