Here are the top stories today in Bedford:
- Enjoy a warmer day on Thursday, with temperatures in the high 30s. Compared with the below zero wind chills we've had recently, it may feel much warmer. Enjoy the day, because cold air from Canada moves in on Friday, with highs in the 20s to lower 30s. According to WMUR meteorologist Kevin Skarupa, it will be a bitterly cold day Saturday, with "wind chills at or below zero all day" and temperatures in the single digits and teens. Bundle up and keep pets inside during below freezing temperatures. Snow or a wintry mix is possible late Sunday night or Monday. Stay tuned to this developing story with the Storm Watch 9 team: (WMUR)
- You never know what you will discover on the Seacoast in the winter. A rare whale was stranded in shallow water at the Salisbury Beach State Reservation in Massachusetts yesterday. Brian Yurasits, and others from the marine mammal rescue team at the Seacoast Science Center in Rye, New Hampshire, found the unusual whale thrashing around in about a foot of water. Yurasits said the pygmy sperm whale likely ended up on shore due to an underlying injury or ailment, or a strike from a ship. The rescue team determined it too dangerous to try to rescue the whale given its size and the way it was moving. The best way to help the deep-sea animal, they determined, was to wait for high tide so it could float back into the water. After sunset, when high tide came, the whale was able to swim back into the ocean. You can read the full story here: (NHPR)
- A $104,000 reward is being offered for information leading to finding Harmony Montgomery, a 7-year-old New Hampshire girl that was last seen around November 2019. As the urgent high-profile search continues, Manchester police said that the cash reward will encourage people to come forward with information. On Wednesday police announced that anyone who provides them with information about the whereabouts of 7-year-old Harmony would be eligible to receive the $112,000 reward. - The Palace Theatre on Hanover Street in Manchester is hosting a COVID-19 vaccine clinic on Friday, providing the first, second, and booster doses of the Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines. The clinic runs from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Anyone 5 and older is eligible and walk-ins are welcome. You can read more here: (WMUR)
