Benefit for Special Olympics Held Saturday

The New England Ringers, under the direction of Edward G. Henderson Jr., will present their concert, Winter Solstice, on Saturday, Nov. 28, 2015, at 7 p.m. at the Bedford High School Auditorium.

This concert is sponsored by the Bedford Saint Elizabeth Seton Knights of Columbus, Council 12988 and will benefit the Bedford Bobcats and Manchester Special Olympic teams.

Advance sale tickets are $10/person and can be obtained by texting or calling John Connors at 603-785-6740, according to a press statement. Tickets will also be available at the door for $12/ticket. Special Olympic athletes from both the Bedford and Manchester teams will be admitted free of charge if they bring a non-perishable food item. The general public is also encouraged to bring a food item. All the food collected will be contributed to the St. Raphael’s Food Pantry in Manchester.

The New England Ringers, headquartered in Massachusetts, is composed of 15 Hand Bell musicians and is considered New England’s premier Hand Bell Ensemble. They were founded by some of the Region’s most talented ringers in 2000 for the purpose of attending and ringing at the National Directors Seminar of the American Guild of English Hand Bell Ringers. After that event, the Ensemble continued with the mission of delighting audiences and performing challenging music at the highest level. NER amazes listeners of all ages with their blend of lively and beautiful moods and styles. The performances include classical works, arrangements of familiar favorites, and original compositions. One of the major goals of the Ensemble is to introduce to audiences the incredible music that can be made on this impressive instrument. The group also strives to achieve a level of musicianship that will bring Hand Bells greater recognition and acceptance in the world of musical performance.

All net proceeds from this event will go to the Bedford Bobcats and Manchester Special Olympic teams. In the aggregate these two organizations, sanctioned by Special Olympics NH, provide year round athletic training and competition in seven sports and serve over 250 intellectually challenged individuals in the Greater Manchester area. John Connors, Manchester Special Olympic Track & Field Director and event organizer, summed up the event: “It’s a great opportunity for individuals and families to enjoy a wonderful night out with world class music and at the same time support two extremely important charities in Special Olympics and the St. Raphael Food Pantry. “
