Company Transports Heavy Equipment From Portsmouth To Amherst Tuesday And Wednesday Nights

Bay Crane Northeast will move 1 million-pound, 277-foot Eversource condenser through Exeter, Manchester, and Bedford over a 48-hour period.

CONCORD, NH — There will be temporary rolling roadblocks and closures, from Portsmouth to Amherst, as a Rhode Island company transports a condenser for Eversource.

The New Hampshire Department of Transportation has approved a “supermove” of heavy equipment by Bay Crane Northeast LLC of Smithfield, Rhode Island, on Tuesday and Wednesday nights. The roadblocks and closures, weather permitting, will begin at 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 20, on the Portsmouth seaport. The route will travel on Route 33 to Route 108, and then Route 101 to Interstate 293. The equipment is a one-million pound, 277-foot-long condenser for an Eversource power transfer station. It will stop around 3 a.m. and park in Bedford.

Around 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 21, the condenser will move through Bedford on Route 101 to Route 122 and then Route 101A in Amherst.

“To ensure the safety of the traveling public, infrastructure, and equipment, there will be several road closures along the route that may last for 30 minutes or more,” Richard Arcand, the public information officer for the department of transportation, said. “The remainder of the route will require rolling roadblocks for the duration of the move.”

Alternative routes were suggested to commuters for both evenings.
