Deering Man Struck By 3 Vehicles While Trying To Cross I-293
State police: Billy Slatton died attempting to cross the interstate to get to a gas station after an SUV he was in had mechanical problems.
MANCHESTER, NH — A passenger in an SUV who was attempting to cross a highway to get help after the vehicle he was in had mechanical issues was struck and killed on Interstate 293 Saturday, according to New Hampshire State Police. Troopers were sent to the area just north of Exit 7 around 10:30 p.m. for a report of three vehicles striking a pedestrian. Billy Slatton, 54, of Deering, was pronounced dead at the scene by Manchester firefighters.
Slatton was a passenger in a Toyota RAV4 that encountered mechanical problems and later became disabled in the breakdown lane., according to Lt. Bryan Trask of Troop B.
"After a short period of time, in an attempt to cross the highway to get to a local gas station, Billy Slatton entered the travel portion of the roadway where he was struck by three vehicles," Trask said.

The vehicles involved in the crash included a BMW X5 driven by a Center Barnstead man, a Chevrolet Trailblazer operated by a Concord man, and a Volvo XC90 driven by a Northwood woman.
"All three drivers remained on scene and are cooperating with the investigation," Trask said. "No injuries were reported by any other individuals involved in this incident."

The northbound side of the highway was shut down for about three hours. State police were assisted by Manchester firefighters and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation.
