An officer at a traffic stop on Weston Road at just after 1 a.m. yesterday morning reportedly saw another vehicle traveling on Jewett Street at a high rate of speed, according to Lt. Brian O’Keefe of the Manchester Police Department. (For more information on this and other neighborhood stories, subscribe to Bedford NH Patch to receive daily newsletters and breaking news alerts.)

“The speeding vehicle came to an abrupt stop at Weston Road before turning east on Weston Road,” O’Keefe stated.

The officer cleared the stop and then caught up with the vehicle on Weston Road and pulled it over.

“He approached the operator and immediately smelled an odor of alcohol emanating from his breath, so he instructed the operator to turn off the vehicle,” O’Keefe alleged. “Instead, the man placed his car in gear as he turned the steering wheel toward the officer and sped away from the car stop. The man struck the officer with his side mirror as he drove toward Porter Street.”

The officer – who was not injured – entered his vehicle and attempted to keep visual contact on the fleeing vehicle. The officer “maintained sight of the speeding car even though it was quite a distance away from him” and “watched as the operator lost control of the vehicle in the area of Somerville Street, where it ultimately crashed into a nearby fence,” according to O’Keefe.

When the officer arrived at the crash, the vehicle was reportedly empty but, as other officers arrived at the scene, two subjects were found in the bushes of the yard where the vehicle crashed, O’Keefe alleged.

Corriveau was taken to hospital with injuries he sustained in the crash and was later arrested and held. Montanez was arrested and is due in court on Sept. 15.

Corriveau, according to O’Keefe, had a suspended license in September 2016, due to a previous driving while intoxicated conviction.
