Exoticism and the Influence of Spanish Music Throughout the World:1700-1940

OLLI at Granite State College and The Silver Liners Present A Program by Internationally Acclaimed Pianist, George Lopez.

Lopez will discuss how the use of foreign musical styles to evoke another culture is at the heart of Exoticism. This lecture will focus on the use non-Spanish composers made of traditional and evocative Iberian gestures to "bring Spain" to their native countries throughout Europe. This discussion will be followed by piano interpretations of works by Scarlatti, Debussy, Liszt, and Rachmaninov.

George Sebastian Lopez has been featured across the globe as recitalist, soloist with orchestra, and collaborator. He received critical acclaim for his interpretation of Bach's Goldberg Variations at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and has performed at Boston's Jordan Hall, New York's Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall and in Los Angeles.  The Los Angeles Times hailed Mr. Lopez for his "musical perspective, continuity, and kaleidoscopic, pic colors."

Currently Mr. Lopez is the Beckwith-Artist-in Residence at Bowdoin College, Brunswick, Maine where he works with students in developing their musical talents, directs the Bowdoin Orchestra and continues to perform around the globe.

This event is free and open to the public ... donations graciously accepted.  Light refreshments will be served. For more information, please contact Christina Link, OLLI office, 603 513-1377.
