Frank Robertson: Bedford Town Council
Regarding the March 8 Bedford town elections

I am always fascinated when someone moves to a community and immediately runs for office. Its more than a little presumptuous to think that they know more about our town than long standing, permanent residents do.
What is so wrong with Bedford that we need recent Peterborough resident Michael Strand to move here and fix? Maybe he misses Peterborough’s $25.76 per $1000 tax rate? Maybe when he sees Bedford homeowners paying a rate of $17.14 per $1,000, he sees room for some Peterborough style “improvement”? Whatever it is, has recent Peterborough resident Michael Strand invested yet in a home in our community? Maybe property taxes first need to go up 50% before he truly feels like he is home?
Retirees, hardworking residents and young families who want to raise their families here, don’t want to be taxed out of the town they grew up in and love. Not very many Bedford residents could afford, let alone want to pay, $20K plus taxes. Record level inflation is already ripping money out of our household budgets due to inept Federal government policies. Keep Peterborough tax levels out of Bedford.
