The Gyro Spot Aligns with Alzheimer's Association for Hippo de Mayo

Event takes play on May 7.

The 5th annual Hippo de Mayo Taco Challenge, set to take place Thursday, May 7, in Manchester, boasts New England’s largest Cinco de Mayo celebration, and all for only $2 a taco, according to a press statement.

As part of this special event, more than 50 restaurants create a signature taco. The Gyro Spot, winner of the People’s Choice in 2014 and Judge’s Choice in 2013 is set to dish out their Opa Taco to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association.

“We are very excited to be sponsored by The Gyro Spot again this year,” said Becky Coliandris, development officer at the Alzheimer’s Association, Massachusetts/New Hampshire Chapter. “We are so thankful for this partnership and their commitment to raise awareness and funds in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders.”

From 4 until 9 p.m., Taco tourists will navigate their way through downtown Manchester and the Millyard tasting all the various reinventions of the taco. At the end of the event, they will be asked to vote for their favorite taco through hippodemayo.com, where the most popular taco will win their partnered charity $1,000. An additional $1,000 will be awarded to the judge’s favorite taco.

The Gyro Spot opened their family owned restaurant in 2012 at 1073 Elm Street in Manchester. They serve classic Greek gyros fresh, fast and always with a smile along with other traditional Greek items.
