“The Commission believes in the importance of forging relationships with our business partners and New Hampshire nonprofits to help create meaningful change in our state,” said NHLC Chairman Joseph W. Mollica. “The New Hampshire Breast Cancer Coalition is an important advocate and source of assistance to breast cancer patients throughout New Hampshire. We are pleased to help facilitate this partnership which will generate thousands of dollars to help support breast cancer patients struggling to meet financial obligations due to the expense of their treatment.”
The proceeds from the partnership with NHLC and HandCraft will support NHBCC’s Support Services Fund, a resource for New Hampshire patients who have exhausted all other options for financial assistance. In 2014 alone, NHBCC helped 112 women with $78,000 in financial assistance. Typical requests for help include rent or mortgage payments, co-pays for treatment, transportation, childcare and other household expenses.
Founded in 1992, NHBCC is a statewide, grassroots advocacy organization whose mission is to advocate for and provide assistance to New Hampshire residents with breast cancer.
Excluding cancers of the skin, breast cancer is the most common form of cancer among American women, with more than 231,000 new cases expected in the United States in 2015, according to the American Cancer Society. New Hampshire has the sixth highest rate of breast cancer in the U.S., according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
“The New Hampshire Breast Cancer Coalition is honored to be the beneficiary of this unique fundraising partnership,” said Nancy Ryan, president of NHBCC. “The proceeds will help ease the financial burden faced by many New Hampshire patients who are diagnosed with this devastating disease.”
