BEDFORD, NH — Weather and speed appear to be factors in a single-vehicle crash on the southbound side of Interstate 293 in Bedford on Monday, according to New Hampshire State Police.

Around 11 p.m., troopers were sent to a crash report involving a Ford transit passenger van in the area of Mile Marker 3.4. The driver, Liviu Daescu, 60, of Manchester, began to hydroplane while driving the van after heavy rain poured onto the highway, Amber Lagace, a public information officer for the department, said.

“Daescu reportedly lost control of his vehicle and collided with the guardrail on the left side of the road,” she said. “The van then overturned and landed on its side in the middle of the highway where it blocked the left two lanes.”

The highway was shut down briefly while emergency personnel arrived on the scene, Lagace said. One passenger was taken to Elliot Hospital with minor injuries. The southbound side of I-293 was closed for about 15 minutes until the right lane could be cleared, she said. The remaining two left lanes were closed for an hour while the van was lifted back upright and removed.

Bedford firefighters assisted troopers at the scene, Lagace said, while “speed and weather conditions” were believed to be contributing factors.
